Are you watching Beet.tv?
Video is my new area of obsession, which I've mentioned here before and I know that I've also mentioned Andy Plesser of beet.tv but I think what he is doing is worth a post. I connected with him a few months back and was jazzed by how invested he was in video and the possibilities it presents. Fast forward to tonight and, wow, what he's doing is simply amazing.
A quick browse of beet.tv shows Plesser's breaking of Scoble's news that he was leaving Microsoft, interviews with Facebook cofounder Chris hughes, YouTube cofounder/CEO Chad Hurley, Yahoo!'s Nick Chavez, Newsweek's Steven Levy... the list goes on. Not only is Andy pushing the borders with his work, he's tapping into the minds of the thought leaders in industry. If you're not paying attention to Beet.tv, you should.
In terms of video on college websites, it's certainly more common today with varying levels of what could technically be called "awesomeness." Every school has a different level of commitment and, of course, resources. I think it's worth checking out what the University of Missouri-Rolla's Tom Shipley (of 70's band Brewer & Shipley fame) is doing at http://video.umr.edu/ His "Paradise Found" piece is excellent. This is really compelling content.
